InMijnBus helps your municipality

InMijnBus is a digital YES sticker that, thanks to its convenience and additional user features, will accelerate the sustainability and effectiveness of advertising brochures.

With InMijnBus, Spotta has the ambition to reduce the number of unread advertising brochures in waste paper to zero. Research shows that 15% of Dutch households want to use a mailbox sticker, but often experience this as too much hassle or find the sticker ugly on the mailbox (GfK, 2021). InMijnBus addresses these concerns. On the inmijnbus.nl website, households easily indicate YES or NO to receive Spotta's weekly brochure package. In addition, InMijnBus also offers the possibility to temporarily interrupt delivery, for example during vacation, or to put together a brochure package yourself (YES with fewer leaflets). If that 15% of the Dutch would say NO on InMijnBus, that would save 21,000 tons of paper per year. This does not include the number of tons saved by putting together personalized brochure packages yourself.

Why in My Bus?

Better for the environment

Due to digital registration, submitting a YES, NO or “Create the brochure package yourself” preference for receiving Spotta's weekly brochure package is easy and accessible for households. The delivery of the brochure package can also be (temporarily) stopped during, for example, vacation. In addition to the fact that the brochure package is no longer delivered to households that do not read the leaflet package, the digital registration also ensures current reach figures that are shared with advertisers. Both benefits contribute to reducing the amount of unread advertising leaflets used in waste paper. In addition to less waste due to paper savings, InMijnBus also saves the chain through less use of raw materials (paper and ink) and less transport (CO2).

More efficient for delivery drivers

Spotta has around 21,000 delivery drivers who deliver mailbox ads and door-to-door newspapers. The delivery drivers are usually young people for whom it is their first job, but also elderly people who do the work to supplement their state pension and people with a distance from the labor market who are looking for a side job. Today, an average of 42% of Dutch households no longer want to receive mailbox advertisements. These are 3.5 million mailboxes that our delivery drivers still had to physically visit every week to see if anything has changed in the sticker situation. That is not efficient. In the new JA delivery model, InMijnBus, our delivery drivers therefore deliver based on a running list. This way, they only have to go to the addresses where something can be delivered to the mailbox. This method has been developed in collaboration with our delivery staff. For a clear picture of this new delivery method, watch the video at: www.inmijnbus.nl/levering.

Easier for citizens

Advertising brochures consist of the consumer's desire to receive information via leaflets. For example, a recent study by Direct Research shows that 82% of leaflet package recipients want to continue receiving the package. 70% of households that want to receive advertising brochures read them to be aware of offers (GfK, 2020). 53% of households read leaflets to save money (Gfk, 2021) and 22% of households say they need advertising brochures to make ends meet financially (Gfk, 2021). InMijnBus ensures that households that want to receive advertising brochures every week will continue to receive them. At the same time, InMijnBus takes into account the increasing awareness of consumers about sustainability. Part of this is the possibility to put together a personal brochure package on InMijnBus.

More effective for advertisers

For (local) entrepreneurs, door-to-door communication is still important to activate consumers to come to the store, use their service, order food or attend an event. On the other hand, advertisers want to reach reading consumers with fewer leaflets. InMijnBus provides a higher effective reach because it is easier for consumers to indicate their preference to receive Spotta's brochure package. For example, with InMijnBus, Spotta has current reach figures. As a result, advertisers know exactly how many leaflets to print.

Code VOR

Advertising code

Requesting, pasting or (temporarily) removing the mailbox stickers is a hassle for some households. Consumers also don't always know where and how to request a mailbox sticker. In addition, not all leaflets are always equally relevant to the recipients. These reasons are removed with InMijnBus, which will lead to fewer unread advertising brochures in waste paper.

Code VOR and InMyBus

With InMijnBus, Spotta opts for a more sustainable delivery model. Digital registration of the YES or NO preference for receiving Spotta's brochure package is easy and accessible. It also offers consumers the option to temporarily interrupt the brochure package or to put together a brochure package themselves. For example, it is not without reason that printed matter falls on the bus.

Complaints handling

Spotta's existing complaint procedure has also been unlocked via InMijnBus. The complaint procedure under the mailbox stickers of the Code VOR no longer applies to InMijnBus because InMijnBus is not yet part of that advertising code. Should your municipality receive complaints or questions about Spotta's delivery, Spotta will be happy to support you.

Privacy aspects in My Bus

When changing the preference on InMijnBus, the preference is determined on the basis of the AVG “execution of the agreement” basis whether or not to receive the brochure package from Spotta. Residents of an address remain unknown when changing their preferences on InMyBus. Only an address's preferences are registered. 93% of the current Spotta folder package recipients in opt-out municipalities agree that their preference is registered with InMijnBus, which means that they will continue to receive the brochure package (Direct Research, 2024).

A mobile phone number may also be requested for verification purposes; that number will not be stored. With the setup of InMijnBus, the processing of personal data, as referred to in the AVG, is minimized and limited as much as possible. Residents are simply not familiar with InMijnBus and will not be. Only the address is processed and no other data that can be traced back to a natural person.

Future developments

The Netherlands is the first country in the world to have a digital JA sticker for mailbox advertising. Spotta is open to expanding InMijnBus with other parties into the online place where a household can manage preferences for all mailbox access. That's why it already looks neutral.

Buy locally
The InMijnBus platform makes it possible for us to offer households more choice than YES or NO, as is the case with the current mailbox sticker. A next step, for example, could be that households that do not want to receive advertising brochures now indicate that they would like to receive leaflets from the local bakery, butcher, restorer, bookstore, event, etc.

FAQs

I would like to have my preference data removed.

Spotta complies with all requests to have preference data removed. You can do this by contacting our customer service: via email: support@inmijnbus.nl or by telephone: 088-8424398. We are happy to assist you from Monday to Friday between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm.

What is Spotta's brochure package?

This package includes leaflets from supermarkets, drugstores and hardware stores, among others.

What about my privacy?

Residents of an address remain unknown to InMijnBus. We do this for privacy reasons. We only register your address and whether your household wants to receive the brochure package from Spotta. This is necessary in order to fulfil your wish to receive the brochure package from Spotta.

What personal information do I need to provide?

InMijnBus only processes an address and whether your household wants to receive the brochure package from Spotta. InMijnBus never processes names and therefore does not know who you are.

I chose “Build the folder package myself”, but did not create an account. What does this mean for me?

When you choose “Compose the brochure package yourself”, you can put together your personal folder package in 3 easy steps. In order to be able to deliver your personal brochure package to you, it is important that you select your folders and choose your extras. Then you complete your account. If you do not create an account on Folderkiezer.nl within 2 days of registering on InMijnBus, we will not be able to deliver your personal folder package. In that case, we will follow your previous choice for Spotta's standard brochure package and continue to deliver it to you.

How secure is my data if I temporarily interrupt the brochure package due to my vacation?

At InMyBus, we only remember your choice: YES or NO. You don't have to specify a reason why you say YES or NO. Our deliverers receive an ever-changing list every week with only the YES addresses where they need to put a leaflet package in the mailbox. This is the most minimal information that is needed to provide our services. So, just like now with mailbox stickers, our deliverers do not know why an address was set to YES or NO and whether it was done forever or temporarily.

Who is Spotta?

Spotta is the national delivery company of more than 90% of the advertising brochures in the Netherlands. They deliver the familiar weekly brochure package, the self-assembled brochure package, separate mailbox advertisements and provide brochure displays in shopping areas. Want to know more about Spotta? Go to spotta.nl.

Why don't we stop advertising flyers altogether?

Consumers use the advertising brochure for their messages. About 2/3 of the Dutch read them almost every week. One in five households needs the offers to make ends meet. The weekly advertising leaflets therefore continue to meet a need. In addition, entrepreneurs need the advertising brochure to interest (new) customers in their service, store or restaurant.

Can I request more leaflet packages for my address?

Yes, you can. This can only be done by phone via 088-8424398 on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

What are InMijnBus's terms of use?

The terms of use, which apply if you choose to receive or not receive Spotta's brochure package via InMijnBus, can be found here read.

Has your municipality just switched to a Yes sticker policy?

Then our delivery person will only look at your household's preferences on InMijnBus. If your municipality changes to a Yes Sticker or has just changed it, you must indicate your preference on InMijnBus. This means that if your preference is not registered on InMijnBus and you have attached a YES sticker, our delivery person will NOT deliver a brochure package.

What about InMijnBus and the AVG?

Via InMijnBus, you can indicate whether your household wants to receive Spotta's brochure package. We register that for your address. This makes it clear that you accept Spotta's offer and there is an agreement. In order to be able to implement this agreement - receive the brochure package from Spotta - it is necessary to register and process the wish you have indicated at an address. Spotta therefore has a lawful basis for registering the address and your wishes in InMijnBus as required by the GDPR. If you have any questions about this, please contact us at privacy@spotta.nl.

Can I already set my house to YES?

Yes, you can. Your YES or NO is already welcome and will remain until you adjust the weather. But only when we have converted your neighborhood to the new JA delivery model will we deliver according to the specified preference. Until then, Spotta delivers based on the mailbox stickers.

What preference is my address in the system now?

From the launch on July 1, 2023, no household has been set to YES or NO. As soon as your neighborhood switches to InMijnBus, we will inform the households that are now receiving advertising brochures so that we can ensure that these households continue to receive Spotta's leaflet package. This will happen on the current preferences of the well-known YES or NO sticker for advertising brochures. So NO remains NO. InMijnBus is intended for the YES's.

Can I also share my preferences over the phone?

Yes, you can do that via 088-8424398 on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

When will my neighborhood switch to InMijnBus?

Between September 2023 and June 2024, the whole of the Netherlands will switch to InMijnBus. As soon as it is your neighborhood's turn, we will communicate about this. We only do this to households that indicate that they want to receive advertising brochures with the current mailbox sticker system. Spotta is not going to harass households that now say NO because NO is NO.

Can anyone just change my household's preferences?

InMijnBus was supposed to be easier than sticking a sticker, so you don't need an account and you can set your mailbox to YES or NO within 1 minute. To prevent abuse, we have built in various invisible protections. If a home address is changed too often or too soon after a previous change, verification via a 06 number may be requested or the support center must be contacted. We only add these extra thresholds in potentially suspicious situations. In this way, we prevent someone from setting an entire street to YES or NO.

Will I continue to receive my brochure package?

If you now receive a leaflet package, we will inform you when your neighborhood switches to the JA delivery model, from that moment on, the delivery person will follow the preference indicated on InMijnBus for your address. We will inform you how this transition goes smoothly so that you don't have to miss a brochure package.
